EFAWA E News Thursday June 19th 2008

EFAWA You-Tube of the Week:   Lancelot - the smallest Grand Prix pony in the world!

http://dressur-design.de/inhalte/texte/english/horses/lancelot.php scroll to the bottom of the page and view video.

Sponsors are an integral part of the EFA and in 2008 we THANK the Western Australian Department of Sport & Recreation, our Principal Partner and

and we encourage you to support the people and businesses that support you!

FROM THE EFA OFFICE

WE NEED PHOTOS OF YOU!!

This year at the EFAWA Annual Awards night we will be displaying photos of all our members out and about in their various sports.

We don't care what you are doing (within reason of course) so start sending in your best, interesting, silly, scary, awesome and brightest photos - how brave are you feeling?

All we need are good quality Jpeg photos.  We will not use photos if they are downloaded straight from websites.

So send all your photos to sports@efawa.com.au NOW!!

Club Dates 2009

Attention all Clubs - date applications were included in Club Packs.  These applications must be filled in and sent back to the EFAWA Office by NO LATER THAN 1st August 2008.

Early Bird Offers ONE WEEK LEFT!!

We are offering an EARLY-BIRD FEE to all current EFAWA members who pay their membership fees between 1st and 30th June 2008. Please check the website for these fees. We encourage you all to renew online as it is fast, hassle free and paper friendly to the environment!!!

Please remember when renewing online to make sure that you check your full details (postal address, telephone numbers, email) to ensure they are current and up to date – we also ask that you pay particular notice to your email addresses – check they are correct and make amendments where appropriate.

To those renewing through snail mail, please ensure that you WRITE your changes CLEARLY.

Student members must please remember to forward a copy of their current student card to the office to receive the full “student membership benefits”.

Thank you for your continued support of the EFA and we look forward to another year ahead.

Micro chipping for all EFA horses

From 1st July 2008 a new EFA rule comes into place.  It states that ALL newly registered horses (horses that are registered from 1st July 2008 onwards) must be Microchipped for identification purposes.

The main reason for this being brought into place is that the EFA regularly receives complaints from members and the wider community alike about horses that have been sold on but have no visible tracing system.  Previously horses could have been sold then re-registered under a different name and started on a new career as a newcomer.  This will not happen with microchipping.

It will also help to locate lost horses.  There are always adverts placed in various media releases pleading to know if someone can help them find their horse/pony.  Usually the only distinguishing identification is a white marking or two.  Due to this Police currently cannot find horses/ponies with the provided information of a few white markings and a brand that is normally hard to find.  Microchipping will certainly help their searching process.

All racing Thoroughbreds are currently Microchipped as foals and as a condition of registering your horse/pony with a Breed Society it must be Microchipped.  Measuring Bays will no longer be as backlogged, the Measurer just needs to run a scanner over the horse to identify it rather than checking that all markings and brands are exact to the registration papers.

Microchipping need not be a huge added expense, if people are able to get together to have their horses microchipped all at one venue and time, for example an EFAWA Event.

Owners will quickly see that the benefits of Microchipping are much greater than the cost.  Horses will be implanted with a Microchip by a qualified Veterinarian.  The fee for this includes life time registration with Central Animal Records and a Registration Certificate which should be presented to the EFA upon registering your horse.

More information regarding Microchipping will be provided soon.  Keep your eye on our website www.efawa.com.au and email blasts.

SEC NEWS

New Website soon:  The State Equestrian Centre is currently revamping its facilities and branding. Soon EFA members and friends can access information directly from our own Website www.secbrigadoon.com . We are looking for some great action photos taken at the SEC to add to our site so if you have any we can publish then please email them to jennine@efawa.com.au .

ATTENTION:   SEC POLO FIELD CLOSED

The Field has recently been verti-drained and hence CLOSED until Friday 27 June.

Vandalism - Unfortunately SEC equipment is being vandalised. If you do see anyone acting suspiciously please report this to the Grounds person on duty or call EFA Office. All feedback is welcome to try and catch these ungrateful people.

2008 - 2009 SEC Fees

Competitors have commented over the past few months on the improvement in presentation of stables and bedding. Please remember to thank Craig and the SEC Team for their efforts as they have been working diligently to help make it a pleasant stay for all.

In order to keep Facility maintenance to a high standard, fees must be marginally increased to meet increasing Fuel, Labor and Material costs etc

As of 1st July GSF breakdown per horse will be as follows;

GSF     No Stable (yard avail)                    $18

GSF     Stable day                                   $20

GSF     Stable both day & evening              $25

Bookings confirmed in writing prior to 1st July will continue to be charged at 2007/08 Rates.

Where do your dollars go?

An insight into the never ending costs involved in running the State Equestrian Centre…..

  • Stable Bedding
  • Tradesman expenses – Plumber, Electrician, Cleaner,
  • Polo Field Maintenance – Mowing, Fertilizing, Sanding, Verti drainage.
  • Arena Surface materials
  • Administration
  • A Facelift long overdue
  • Rates (Water and Land)
  • Bin Rental
  • Insurance in excess of $20 000 per annum
  • Vehicles – Tractor/Ute/Mowers (Maintenance, Insurance, registrations, fuel etc)

Communtiy Service Exchange Students

To All EFA Members,

AFS Intercultural Programs has two Community Service Exchange students arriving in August. I am a volunteer for this organisation and thought that because these two students are horsey that we might be able to find them host families within the WA Equestrian Community?

Both students have work in the city, they are volunteers to the not for profit organisations that they are assigned to.

The obligations of the host families are that they provide them with food and accommodation free of charge, provide them with support and welcome them as part of their families.  Ideally the students need to be able to access public transport so that they can get to their jobs each day.

The students arrive in early August and are here for 5 months. Please feel free to give me a  call if you can help out or if you have any questions,

Kind regards,

Liz Benson Ph9526 2006  or 0419 949415
