HIGH PERFORMANCE
The fourth Australian Youth Olympic Festival will be held 14-18 January 2009 and will have over 2000 athletes from across the world competing in a number of Summer Olympic sports.
The AYOF is organised by the Australian Olympic Committee. The main aim of the AYOF is to develop our Olympic stars of the future, and to provide aspiring Olympians an insight into what the Olympics are all about. The AYOF incorporates many aspects that athletes will experience in an Olympic Games - Opening and Closing ceremonies, medal presentations, athletes villages and drug testing.
For the second time, the AYOF will include Equestrian events in the disciplines of Dressage and Jumping. The competition will be held at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre.
The EFA is taking nominations for team members until 17 May 2008. Riders must be aged between 15 years and 20 years (born between 01 January, 1989 and 31 December, 1994).
The Jumping competition will be at a maximum height of 1.25m and the Dressage competition held at Medium level. The event is with borrowed horses. All riders who nominate are asked to supply two horses to be used in the competition; all horses will be put into a pool to be drawn out by the teams.
Riders who wish to be eligible for team selection or any owners who would like to provide a horse and be a part of this exciting event should submit an Expression of Interest.
This is a wonderful opportunity for an Olympic experience. In addition, the EFA will incorporate this event, the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore and the 2011 AYOF, in which Equestrian will also be part, into the EFA National Youth Development program.

WA Young Dressage Rider Competing in the East.
HUGE pat on the back to WA Young Rider Kate billings who in this past week has been representing Western Australia in the Young rider CDI competition at the Sydney CDI.
Kate was the only rider from WA competing, and did fantastically well to come 2nd in the Young rider CDI with a freestyle score of 63.65%.
Kate is now heading to the QLD young rider champs in a month, national dressage championships later in the year, and NSW young rider champs soon as well. As reported previously Kate also came 4th in the young rider nationals for the CDI-Y in April, also the only WA representative there. Look out for a news story on Kates adventures on the EFAWA website shortly.

Completed questionnaires are to be returned to me no later than 30 May 2008. I will collate the responses and send them out to each state for their information. Click HERE for questionaire.
