BATES LAUNCHES NEW JUMPING SADDLE - ELEVATION

The New Bates Elevation… The bar has been raised.

What happens when the world’s leading innovator in saddle design joins forces with one of the world’s leading show jumpers? …The Bates Elevation Saddle.

Joining forces with Beezie Madden*, Bates Saddles, leading innovators in saddle design, have broken new ground to pioneer the World’s first truly close contact jump saddle focused on both horse and rider performance.

USA Showjumper Beezie Madden is renowned for her technical accuracy, meticulous attention to detail and text book jumping style, all of which have been invaluable in developing a saddle engineered for precision show jumping.

During the research and development phase, Australian Show Jumper, Greg Smith highlighted “This saddle is just terrific! It puts you in a more forward position, making it easier to maintain the 2 point position when jumping. I certainly notice that it is very narrow, particularly under my leg and I feel very well balanced in this saddle.”

For those riders with serious show jumping aspirations, you simply have to experience this saddle for yourself to feel the power of innovation, by effectively removing the ‘saddle’ from between horse and rider.

The Bates Elevation Saddle will be available in May ’08 through Horseland Stores and other leading saddleries.

Experience it for yourself; sit in a Bates Elevation saddle at your nearest Horseland Store.

The bar has been raised…

*Beezie Madden: Individual Silver Medallist, World Equestrian Games, Aachen 2006. First American rider to be ranked in the top three show jumpers in the World. The first woman ever to pass the million dollar mark in show jumping earnings.

The fourth Australian Youth Olympic Festival will be held 14-18 January 2009 and will have over 2000 athletes from across the world competing in a number of Summer Olympic sports.

The AYOF is organised by the Australian Olympic Committee. The main aim of the AYOF is to develop our Olympic stars of the future, and to provide aspiring Olympians an insight into what the Olympics are all about. The AYOF incorporates many aspects that athletes will experience in an Olympic Games - Opening and Closing ceremonies, medal presentations, athletes villages and drug testing.

For the second time, the AYOF will include Equestrian events in the disciplines of Dressage and Jumping. The competition will be held at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre.

The EFA is taking nominations for team members until 17 May 2008. Riders must be aged between 15 years and 20 years (born between 01 January, 1989 and 31 December, 1994).

The Jumping competition will be at a maximum height of 1.25m and the Dressage competition held at Medium level. The event is with borrowed horses. All riders who nominate are asked to supply two horses to be used in the competition; all horses will be put into a pool to be drawn out by the teams.

Riders who wish to be eligible for team selection or any owners who would like to provide a horse and be a part of this exciting event should submit an Expression of Interest.

This is a wonderful opportunity for an Olympic experience. In addition, the EFA will incorporate this event, the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore and the 2011 AYOF, in which Equestrian will also be part, into the EFA National Youth Development program.

DRESSAGE JUDGES TASKFORCE

Hi All

In 2006 a National Rider Survey was undertaken. As a result of the comments received most states put in strategies to address the riders concerns. The ADC and NDJC have decided to conduct the same survey again this year and this was foreshadowed in the summary of the ADC meeting held in February 2008. The survey questions are the same as they were in 2006 so that we can compare the results and assess whether or not the strategies that were put in place have been effective.

Completed questionnaires are to be returned to me no later than 30 May 2008. I will collate the responses and send them out to each state for their information.

PLEASE NOTE: Jan Godwin ( B panel) has taken LOA from judging for the time being due to family commitments.

Done and dusted for another year this year's event has been hailed the best yet, and we can look forward to the programme expanding later this year and next - watch this space!

Thanks to the many competitors and parents who have forwarded us constructive comments on the weekend, these will be acted upon in the coming months.  As always there are areas that can be improved upon and we will endevour to resolve these situations for next years event.

Both the Friday night Dressage demos and the Saturday night disco were popular so please let us know if you would like to see these again next year or have a suggestion for something different.

Full list of results will be up on the web today - sorry they have been lost in bigpond cyberspace for the last few days!

We still have a lot of pre-ordered shirts that have not been picked up - I will publish of list of owners on the Interschools webpage in the next few days - please check it out and contact us if your name is on the list.

Toyota Paralympic Talent Search Program  24th May 2008

What is the Toyota Paralympic Talent Search Program?

The Toyota Paralympic Talent Search Program is an initiative of the Australian Paralympic Committee (APC). Its main goal is to identify people with physical disabilities and vision impairments who display the athletic potential to one day make it to Paralympic level competition. A secondary goal is to help introduce people with disabilities to enter into regular sport and physical activities.

Who is eligible to participate?

The Paralympic Talent Search day is only open to people with disabilities which would enable them to participate in events currently on the Paralympic Games schedule. This includes but is not limited to amputees, people with cerebral palsy, limb deficiencies, people in wheelchairs and people who are blind or have vision impairments.

People with intellectual disabilities are not currently on the Paralympic Games schedule. Therefore the APC is not able to endorse the participation of athletes with an intellectual disability in the Talent Search Program unless they also have another disability which would enable them to be classified for Paralympic competition.

All age groups are welcome to participate in the program however it is difficult to provide specific pathway advice to younger participants.

What sports can I do?

On the day we conduct general sport tests and activities, plus some sport specific tests for the sports where we offer a Paralympic Preparation Program (PPP). Sports that currently offer a PPP are: Archery, Athletics, Boccia, Cycling, Equestrian, CP Soccer, Goalball, Judo, Powerlifting, Rowing, Sailing, Shooting, Swimming, Table Tennis, Wheelchair Basketball, Wheelchair Tennis and Wheelchair Rugby.

Participants are encouraged to take part in all activities. Sport specific testing is dependent on coach availability. Therefore we are unable to guarantee that sport specific testing in all PPP sports will be available at all Talent Search Days.

The APC will forward results from the Talent Search day to coaches from these sports for their information. If you require further information on any of these sports, please go to www.paralympic.org.au.

What do I need to do before the Talent Search day?

Participants are required to complete a registration form prior to attending the day. Registration forms are available from www.paralympic.org.au; rilana.ostheim@paralympic.org.au or phone 0418 443 481

Directions and final information will be provided to all registered participants one week prior to the day

 GENERAL NEWS

WARM UP ARENA ETIQUETTE

A member has forwarded the following guidlelines and we felt it most worthy of publishing here.

I have been competing for a very long time, and have noticed that the "rules" of the warm up arena seem to have been forgotten.
No matter what type of competition, there is always something..... and everyone wants their warmup to go well, as it affects their performance.
Here is a few little rules that everyone should know, yet seem to forget.
1. Do not stand in front or behind practice fences.
2. If you are passing some one, pass left shoulder to left shoulder.
3. If some one is performing a higher of more advanced movement than you are, they have right of way.
4. If you have people watching you, keep them out of the warmup arena, other cometitors have enough to worry about without spectators being in the way.
5. If you have a jump altered (eg. put up), once you are finished, return it to its original position.
If everyone paid a little bit more attention to what is going on around them, the warmup arena would be a much nicer place to go!!!

I think that it is an issue that gets a lot less attention than it should.

Motivation In Sport

Have you ever spent time practising and preparing for a competition to find that everything fell apart on the day?  Was it because your horse was tense or was it because you were nervous?

Motivation in Sport is a 2 hour workshop that will give you the skills and knowledge to deal with the stresses of competing.

It will be held at Brookleigh Bunkhouse and sessions are available on Sat 10th May 2008 and Sun 11th May 2008.

Please contact Wayne Kiely at admin@cht.net.au to secure a place. See flyer HERE
