EFA WA E-News April 10th, 2008

It's Go For 2 & 5 Interschool time again and next week the SEC will be a buzz with some 380 students from some 90 different schools across the State competing over three days of competition beginning next Friday.  Thursday night before competition begins we have a Welcome Dinner and talk about Careers in Racing by Ron Fleming to be followed by a fun night of unmounted games - just to get eveyone relaxed and into the swing of things.  Friday is dressage day and the day begins at 8.30am with 12 dressage arenas running at the same time.  Dressage runs through to 5.30 and then competitors, family and spectors alike are invited to join us at 7.30pm in the Indoor by a talk by visiting National Dressage Selector Maria Schwennesen on the run up to the Beijing Olympics and then a ridden talk by Victoria Hamilton on her lovely Grand Prix Stallion Aasachen to be followed by members of the State Dressage Squad riding through their freestyle tests. Saturday is Showman day where competitors compete in both jumping and non-jumping classes that contain jumping, ridden workout, in hand and dressage sections.  Saturday night after presentations the SEC will be "in the groove" to a disco provided by Future Dance DJ's.  Sunday ( if we have any energy left) is Showjumping day and students will be competing in classes from 45cm through to 1.20m and these begin at 7.30am.

Winners of selected classes over the weekend are eligible to represent WA at the first ever National Interschools Championships to be held at Towoomba QLD in October.

For spectators and parents we have big array of tradestands for you to peruse and spend some money and we have some educational stands as well.  The SEC Caterers "The Classic Taste Co" have put together some great meal deals for breakfast and dinner over the weekend for competitors and spectators alike.

This event has become a great way of introducing equestrian sport to the schools system and also to the youth of our community. Our riders of the future may begin their competition careers here at interschool. With the great popularity of this event in the next 12 months we will see the Interschools programme expand to include different competition days and will also see the introduction of an associated educational programme.

So if you have a few hours spare next weekend 18th - 20th April come and see the action or better still lend us a hand!

See you there,

Jacqui Moon - Interschools Coordinator

WA Young Rider competing “Over East”

Kate Billings and her horse Gracefield Fabian recently competed at the YR National Championships held in Victoria.

There was a very large number of young riders competing in all grades from Preliminary with one young rider competing Inter II/Grand Prix and doing very well in an open competition at that level.  Also included was a CDI-Y, an FEI competition at Prix St George level which can qualify riders to be considered for selection for the World Young Rider Championships.

Kate and Fabian were competing in the CDI-Y.

The Melbourne weather lived up to its reputation with the Tuesday, the first day of competition seeing everyone in T-shirts and hats with cold drinks in their hands however, on the Wednesday when Kate was competing it was freezing cold, strong winds and pelting rain!!!  The judges in the cars needed their wipers and lights on full , while the judges in the boxes needed to peer through small openings in their windows to see out to the riders!!   Kate was placed 4th and was looking forward to the final, being the freestyle the following evening.

Kate and Fabian started off very positively but a couple of errors kept them in 4th place.  The final 4 kept the statistics looking good for the championships as a national event with riders being placed from Queensland, New South Wales, ACT and WA.

Kate and Fabian will be competing at the Sydney CDI-Y in May and again hope to do well in such strong competition.

Programs available soon!

Swan River Showjumping Club

has changed the date of their first fixture from the 13th April to 27th April 2008.  We will be running at Brookleigh Estate on the outdoor arena which has recently been resurfaced and offers a fabulous new jumping surface to jump on.  There has also been a new warm up arena with the same surface constructed alongside the outdoor arena making warm up a lot easier.  We will have canteen facilities, plenty of parking and wash down facilities all located close to the arena (even a bar facility for those who would like to have a drink later in the day.)  We are also planning a happy hour with drinks and nibbles at the end of the day which will be in the alfresco area at Stewarts restaurant.  Our program will cater for Junior, Young Riders and Senior competitors with classes starting at 90cm and going to 1.30.  Programs will be available at WASJA, on Cavalletti and also by Emailing gail@pcahose.com.au or tom.m99@bigpond.com.

We hope to see you all there for a great day of jumping.
