Paralympic Selection News - Congratulations to our Sharon Jarvis!

       

PARA EQUESTRIAN NEWS

 

Riding for the Disabled Association Australia on Friday announced four Para Equestrians to be nominated to the Australian Paralympic Committee to represent Australia at the 2008 Paralympics in Hong Kong. A fifth athlete will be announced in June and selected from three named reserves.

 

Western Australian, Sharon Jarvis and her horse, ‘Odorado’, were named in the four.

 

Sharon is well known in WA Equestrian circles, being a successful Dressage and Show Horse competitor, a breeder of fine riding ponies and an equally successful Para Equestrian.

 

Sharon competed and was placed at the World Para Equestrian Championships in Hartpury, UK, last year.  This achievement qualified her to be considered for selection for the Paralympics.

 

In addition to campaigning ‘Odorado’, who due to EI didn’t arrive in WA until December, last year, Sharon has also competed with considerable success on the stallion, Northern Griffin. Northern Griffin has been named as the mount for NSW Para Equestrian, Jan Pike.  Jan has flown to Perth twice this year to ride Griffin at clinics conducted by National Para Equestrian Coach, Mary Longden and an excellent partnership has developed  Jan is no newcomer to Paralympics having won two medals at Athens. Griffin’s owner, Terrina Fairbrother has very generously made him available for Jan to ride in Hong Kong.
