DRESSAGE SUMMER SERIES - Report Week 4.

Well the Summer Series is over for another year, and what a successful series it was!!  The first week saw a record number of entries, and we have never had such a wonderful variety of horses and riders.  It also wasn’t quite as hot as last year which was a positive for most, although I did notice a few judges melting in their cars!!!

This year we were very proud to be able to offer the Para Equestrian tests as well as the 2008 Hong Kong Qualifier test to add some variety. ...........To view Jess's full report and results click HERE

There will be a Workshop for Trainee Judges at SEC in the Ocean Foam Room, starting at 7.00pm.  The fee has not yet been set by DJT, it will probably be around $10.00- $15.00 per person.  The 7.00pm start will be an opportunity to ask any questions, to help you to understand what is required in the NOAS system (eg what Mentoring entails, and what Shadow Judging entails). After about 8.00pm there will be an opportunity to cover some ground on judging issues, and hopefully to set several Mentoring and Shadowing dates for the year, particularly for those who plan to complete the F Level requirements this year.

Nadine Merewether was honoured at The EFA National Awards Night 9th February 2008. Nadine received the EFA Special Services Award which was presented by Russ Withers;

"Nadine has been a Dressage Judge for almost 40 years, an A-Level judge since 1989, and a Judge Educator for over 20 years.  She is an inspiring

Speaker and presenter.  In the 1970's Nadine was the driving force behind  the creation of the Dressage Association of WA.  In 2002 she became the

National Dressage Grand Prix champion with Barrabadeen Troubadour. Her conduct as a Judge, Coach and Competitor has set a wonderful example

for all."

Nadine was unable to attend the EFA National Awards Ceremony. Chair of DJTF Kim Thomas accepted the Award from Russ Withers on Nadine’s behalf.

WA is fortunate to have Nadine in our state and we congratulate her on this wonderful achievement. Nadine has set a high standard in riding coaching and judging and this standard has paved the way for Dressage to grow in the right direction in Western Australia.

Measuring 2008

The $5 previously being charged for a measuring card is no longer adequate to cover the associated costs of measuring and our very generous volunteer measurers are often not reimbursed for their travel expenses. Therefore measuring has increased to $10 as of 1 January 2008. This is the first increase in measuring for many years and we thank all competitors and clubs for their cooperation and understanding.

VOLUNTEER NEWS

The Green Shirt Workshop 21st February at 5.30pm

Across Australia, most sports have difficulty recruiting, training and retaining officials.  Equestrian sport faces a crisis with the continuing decline in the number of officials and volunteers staying with the sport.  Harassment, abuse and lack of respect have been identified as major causes. The aims of the green shirt program are to:

  • Make volunteers and officials easily identifiable
  • Raise awareness, recognition and support of officials and volunteers
  • Assist in reducing pressure and lessening abuse
  • Create a culture of support

The Green Shirt Workshop aims to introduce new volunteers to pencilling and gear checking, and to create a social atmosphere for volunteers and officials to get to know one another. The evening will begin with an induction to pencilling and gear checking and then after a break with light refreshments, will follow with an open forum to discuss any issues and feedback regarding volunteering and officiating in equestrian sport.  Without your feedback, we cannot improve anything. If there are any issues you would like raised at the forum please email: volunteercoordinator@efawa.com.au

SCHEDULE

5:30pm – Introduction to Volunteers, 5:45pm – Pencilling Workshop, 6:15pm – Gear Checking Workshop, 6:45pm – Break, 7:00pm – Green Shirt Forum. Please RSVP your attendance by 13th Feb 2008 to volunteercoordinator@efawa.com.au or 9296 1200.
