 JUMPING WA NEWS

Bates Award for Showjumping

Congratulations to all that competed in the Bates class last Saturday.  It was an exiting class with 7 horses going through to the jump off.  First to go the experienced Roger Kamman set a cracking pace which put the pressure on the other riders and horses.  There was some spectacular jumping and crashes to follow which certainly kept the good number of spectators entertained.  Doogie (Alison Rowland) came close to Roger's time on the talented BB Bella but it was the second last horse to go the stallion Noblewood Park Cougar and Rick Dabner who showed great balance, speed and tight lines to beat Roger's time.

This was a very popular win as this combination has been knocking on the door this season and hopefully we will see them go on to bigger and better things next season which the same can be said for the rest of the very talented combinations that competed in this years Bates class that once again was a worthy class for such a prestigious event. Check out all the action shots at aussiesinaction.com.au

SHOWHORSE WA NEWS

Dear EFA Show Horse Members,

On behalf of the Committee, we wish you, your families and your ponies a very happy and safe festive season. May all your presents be horsey and remember, the riding of horses on Christmas Day is forbidden and the feeding of carrot cake and licorice is mandatory.

As I move to a new role within the organisation, Sandy Jamieson will take the Chair in 2008 with Theresa Marshall as Vice Chair. Steph Robson will continue her hard work in the New Year with the help of new committee members, Robyn Endersby, Nikki Chivers and Kaye Forster. Joanne Endersby will head up the events committee. Thank you to exiting committee members Paula Ayres, Paul Morath and Karin Drummond who have done a fantastic job over many years in bringing the events to you.

There are many helpers that we could not have done without in 2007 and we thank those people also. Jacqui Moon, Jenny Kleinitz, Nikki Chivers, Phyl Ayres, Lindsay Baxter and Warrick Bocking who have given up many weekends to prepare for and then assist at the shows. Special mention must go to Vicki Chester – Junior Squad Coordinator and Claire Matsen – Young Riders Squad Coordinator. These ladies have contributed an enormous amount of time on behalf of the EFA to ensure the smooth running of the squads.

Last but by no means least, I would like also like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the members who support the events, squads and the EFA(WA) Branch.  Your participation and encouragement is a driving force and the motivation of the committee.  We look forward to your continued support in 2008.

This year saw 51 Bates cards issued for 2007.  Points were accumulated throuout the year and the top 13 combinations were invited to attend the final at the SEC on December 8th.  Interstate Judge Sue Cunningham joined WA judge Polly Ann Huntington in judging the class.  Horses that competed came from both local and country areas around WA to compete in the final. In second place was BBD Apollo and Catherine De Vita with 66%, closley followed  in third place by country competitor Lynsey Mas on JB Take That with 65%.  Judges were pleased with the quality of horses competing and wished all competitors the best for their future careers.  The organising Committee would like to thank Emily Bates, Gina Hendry and Leat for sponsoring the Bates Newcomers programs and presenting the trophies and rosettes to the winners and placegetters.  Horseland Young Dressage Horse Competition

11.00am Saturday kicked of the Young Horse classes on the international arena and for once the wind was still and the temperature very pleasant.  Horseland had a stand there showcasing the new range of pony saddles which gained a lot of interest from the younger dressage enthusiasts.  Seven four year olds made their debut in the first class which was very entertaining at times with these horses inexperience showing through at times.  Eight five year olds graced the arena in that class and only four tried the much harder six year old class.  Judges for this competition were Hannie Byrne, Hazel Hikins and interstate judge Sue Cunningham.  After two rounds the four year old class was a close one with the imported German Warmblood stallion Royal Oak II and Dion Stokes taking the honours by .26 of a point from popular judge Colin Chantler and his mare Bonita and a similar margin to the third placegetter Annie Cessary-Hopkins and Jaldary Park Willpower.  The 5yo class was even closer with only .02 separating first and second.  The winner was the very loose moving warmblood gelding AEA Benetton and Tracey Spackman from the very smart 14.2 1/2 Lancefield Park French elegance and up and coming young rider Leighchell Rowe. The 6 yo class was won by Gill Wibberly and the Talisman gelding Triplicate from Tyanna Lawless and Donner Versace and the everbusy Dion Stokes and Remi Roosevelt.

The three winners then came together to work out for the Champion overall and from a spectators point of view it was very hard to drage your eyes away from the stunning black stallion who has paces to match and it seemed that the judges agreed and hence awarded the overall chanmpion to Dion Stokes and Royal Oak II.  The Promotions committee would like to Thank Horseland for thier continued support of the Young Horse Classes and we look forward to the next one in 2008 being nice and early in the year to allow horse to be ready for the National final in April.

Overall Champion Royal Oak II & Dion Stokes.

 HAVE YOU SEEN MINDY?

She is a bay pony mare around about 14hh.  She was taken from her paddock on the 5-12-07 in the Swan Valley.  She has a very long forelock almost obscuring her eyes.  She is very fat and currently has a tawny brown winter coat that won’t come out.  Mindy has a tiny off hind white coronet band.  Her most distinguishing feature is her super sized ears (almost like a donkey).  She is very friendly and is very calm and steady.  She snaps when her girth is done up occasionally but otherwise has no faults.  Mindy is currently unshod.  She is a much loved member of our family.  We desperately want her back, no questions asked.  Reward offered if found.  Please contact 9296 0007 if she is seen or any pony vaguely matching this description.
