At Gidgegannup Showgrounds and x-c course

The Gidge x-c course is set in gently rolling parkland, with a soil type that is fantastic for jumping on - even in the dry season.  The back section of the course has had well over 200 tonnes of sand applied to tracks this year making them superb for galloping and jumping on - (and more is on the way).

The course incorporates a variety of interesting and challenging fences from Intro 2 to 2* level, and was designed and built by Tom Compagnoni and is in it's 5th year of competition.

Classes: Intro 2 to 2* (sorry no PC this time)

Details as previous Gidge event - see handbook - and for entry form. (Details also on GH&PC website and Cavalletti).

JUMPING WA NEWS

It is with much saddness that I report to our members the death of John Torrens in Tasmania last weekend after a short battle with cancer. Many will remember John's involvement with Perth Horse Trials and all the work he put in to the building of the cross country course at Wooroloo.  He then moved his interest into showjumping and became heavily involved and a driving force with the EFA Showjumping Committee.  He will be remembered for his quick wit and dry sense of humour and for calling a spade a spade, always sticking up for the underdog and looking for fairness in all situations.  He had a great love of the country environment, his Irish Draft horses, red wine and watching good equestrian competition. A memorial service will be held for John in Perth at a later date.  We will inform members as soon as we know the details.

John with good friend M'Liss Henry

The Smithbrook Wines showjumping derby will take place on the 28th of Oct. at the Smithbrook vineyard near Manjimup. This will be Derby number 6 and as in previous years it will be an invite only event, with competitors being selected by the Southern Forest Showjumping committee. Classes will be limited to 25 starters, the first class being the junior A2 at about 110cm, followed by open speed, the C&D grade derby, then the open Derby which this year will offer a $1000 bonus to be shared by those competitors who finish the 1st round with no faults, hence the track will be a little more challenging than in past years. The day will end with open puissance which will also offer a $1000 bonus to be shared by the riders who set a new puissance record which now stands at 190cm.

Prize money for the day now stands at $10,000 spread over the 4 main events. Invites will be issued late sept. with more info for the day.
