EFA WA E-News 20th September 2007

Hello Everyone,

This weeks EI update is as follows - NSW There are currently 1386 infected properties, 368 dangerous contact properties and 342 suspect properties. The new infected properties reported yesterday continue to occur in existing restricted areas. Approximately 60% of NSW remains completely free of the virus. The new zoning strategy has been announced today. The aim of the zoning strategy will be to contain the area of infection within containment lines, whilst enabling movement under strict movement guidelines applicable to each zone.Vaccination will be used to provide buffer-zones around the infected areas, preventing property-to-property drift to areas that are currently not infected. It is unlikely that broadscale vaccination of horses within the infected zones will be allowed.A policy to allow foaling mares to move under permit in certain circumstances has been developed. The number of Restricted Areas remains at 23.The spread of infection from property to property remains very high in areas around Windsor, Wilberforce, Annangrove, Dubbo, Maraylya, Terrey Hills, French’s Forest and Gosford. It is suspected that property to property spread is happening by transfer of aerosol droplets. This type of transfer will be much less likely to occur as our weather warms up. The virus is sensitive to heat and UV light.

QLD - 198 infected properties (IPs) have now been confirmed in Queensland, twenty more than yesterday.  The latest IPs are in Warwick, Minden/Rosewood, Tambourine, the Brisbane western suburbs and Millmerran.  The state has been divided into red and green zones and those in the green zones are now able to ride and walk their horses and may transport them with a way bill within the green zone.

WA - Racing and Wagering WA have released a paper that discusses the pros and cons of Vaccinations for this virus. To read click [Here].  For those of you who are competing this weekend please remember to fill in your Horse Declaration Form and present this to the attending Health Steward.

For a full run down on the current situation Nationwide please go to the front page of the EFA WA Website and click on the "Latest Info on EI" Tab.

Please take some time to have a look at our sponsors websites:

Have a great, safe and fun weekend.

Wanda Longley has forwarded us the following information on the fate of our horse swimming beach.

Horse Beach Win!!!!!

Hi Everyone,

I've just had some excellent news from Mayor Troy Pickard. At the council briefing session tonight, the results of the public

comments on the dog and horse beach proposed changes will be presented. The full document can be found on pages 21-25 in the following document:

http://www.joondalup.wa.gov.au/BUcouncilsupport/agenmin/Briefing/2007/CJ070918_BRF.pdf

To summarize, the comments recieved were: 152 for extension of the dog beach, 356 against the extension of the dog beach

31 for restrictions at the horse beach, 157 against restrictions at the horse beach

Note that  2:1 were against the dog changes but more than 5:1 against horse restrictions. Thanks everyone who took the time to help with this.

They are STRONGLY recommending that council heed the public on this -  Really they must after this response.

I'll be at the meeting - 6:30 tonight in Conference Room 1, Joondalup Civic Centre and feel free to come along to see for yourselves.

So, congratulations to you all for the good comments! Cheers, Brian

PARA-EQUESTRIAN

Like all equestrian activities, Para Equestrian has also been seriously affected by the current Equine Influenza crisis.  The National RDAA Dressage Championships, scheduled to be held at Werribee on October 8 –13 and which were to incorporate a CDPEI **** International Qualifier for the 2008 Olympics, have had to postponed until January 21 – 26, 2008.  This date will be the last possible date before the Qualification period closes on January 31.  At present we are still negotiating with Werribee but it most likely that the venue will have to be moved to the Tonimbuk Equestrian Centre.  At present, much time is being spent in changing flights for the many overseas officials who were travelling to Australia for this event and, more importantly, determining their availability for the new date as well as amending schedules etc.   We have had excellent assistance from the EFA National office and from the FEI for which we are very grateful and thank them most sincerely.

AUSSIE BUSH YARNS AND BARBECUE AT DIGGERS CAMP

We are still working hard at our fund raising and thank everyone for their support of our functions and our chocolates.  ‘Aussie Bush Yarns and Verse will be held at Diggers’ Camp, Blair Rd Oakford, on Sunday September 23 at 12.30 pm.  Cost of $30.00 includes a great Aussie barbecue.  Contact Fleur Litster on 9256 4143 or 0405 339 757 or email dressage@ridingdevelopsability.com .
