EFAWA Newsletter 13th September 2007

Hello Everyone,

The current situation with EI is that in QLD there are 80 infected properties and in NSW there are 4427 horses infected on 410 different properties and there are a further 274 properties that are considered suspect.  This has been an absolute disaster for both the TB and recreational equine industries in those states.

At this time in WA there are no known cases of EI and as our borders are closed to horses coming in, our greatest  fear at this time, is that this virus may make its way into WA via human contact transfer, on clothing, footwear etc.  If you have any interstate visitors coming to stay at your property PLEASE make them fully aware of the biosecurity measures that they must take, so that they don’t risk bringing this disastrous virus into WA. At this stage we are very very lucky that our racing and recreational activities are continuing, but now is not the time to relax, sit back and think that we are safe.  We are certainly not safe and we all need to play our part in keeping our State disease free.  The Dept of Agriculture has released a series of forms and guidelines which we encourage you to adhere to.  As well as these the EFA will be continuing with Biosecurity checks at all shows.  It is important that we have a system whereby if there is an outbreak then all horse movements can be checked and traced.  We are also asking before you leave home to go to an event that you check your horse/s thoroughly and record their temperature.  Fill in the Dep’t of Ag Horse Event Participation Form and hand this to the Health Steward when you get to your event.  Please be aware that you may still be asked to be temperature checked at an event as well.  The message here is check your horses at home constantly and if one has a temp please leave it at home.

Please have a read of the Dep’t of Agriculture and EFA forms that are listed below and ask your friends to do the same.

Please take some time to have a look at our sponsors websites:

Have a great, safe and fun weekend.

SHOWHORSE WA NEWS.

HOTY and Showman - Well we had to brave a weeks delay and dodgy weather but HOTY has come and gone again for another year.  Considering the circumstances Jo Bastian and her team deserve tripple gold medals for making it through to Sunday night. To run a HOTY is one thing but to take on an international event as well and in very uncertain circumstances is something else and they all deserve a pat on the back.  As with events of this magnitude there are always going to be some hiccups and with some more support from competitors hopefully these can be ironed out for the next event.  A full list of results will be available shortly via the web.  A big congratulations to all the winners and in regards to the International Showman a HUGE congratulations to our Aussie team of Amy Maskell (QLD) Rachel Ross (WA), Emma Panizza (WA) and Jess Staling (NSW) that won the international challenge.  Well Done girls!  A big thanks to all our helpers, sponsors and trade stand owners over the weekend, without you we would not have a show.

And now its on to PERTH ROYAL!

The victorious Aussie Team

PARA-EQUESTRIAN

Like all equestrian activities, Para Equestrian has also been seriously affected by the current Equine Influenza crisis.  The National RDAA Dressage Championships, scheduled to be held at Werribee on October 8 –13 and which were to incorporate a CDPEI **** International Qualifier for the 2008 Olympics, have had to postponed until January 21 – 26, 2008.  This date will be the last possible date before the Qualification period closes on January 31.  At present we are still negotiating with Werribee but it most likely that the venue will have to be moved to the Tonimbuk Equestrian Centre.  At present, much time is being spent in changing flights for the many overseas officials who were travelling to Australia for this event and, more importantly, determining their availability for the new date as well as amending schedules etc.   We have had excellent assistance from the EFA National office and from the FEI for which we are very grateful and thank them most sincerely.

AUSSIE BUSH YARNS AND BARBECUE AT DIGGERS CAMP

We are still working hard at our fund raising and thank everyone for their support of our functions and our chocolates.  ‘Aussie Bush Yarns and Verse will be held at Diggers’ Camp, Blair Rd Oakford, on Sunday September 23 at 12.30 pm.  Cost of $30.00 includes a great Aussie barbecue.  Contact Fleur Litster on 9256 4143 or 0405 339 757 or email dressage@ridingdevelopsability.com .
