EFA WA E-News Thursday September 6th, 2007

Hello Everyone,

It looks like horse events accross WA are going to be able to continue but each event will have to abide by strict Dep't of Agriculture guidelines.  These guidelines are being released tonight at a meeting called by the WA Horse Council at which equine sporting clubs and associations have been invited to attend. We are of the understanding at this time that the current EFA guidelines contain most or if not all of the Dep't of Ag list of "musts and desirables", but if any changes need to be made we will notify clubs immediatley.  Please also remember to keep an eye on the efa website for any changes and updates on the EI situation.

Please take some time to have a look at our sponsors websites:

Have a great, safe and fun weekend.

Message to all EFA Members from EFA Acting CEO - Cath Moss

EFA Biosecurity Controls for EFA Events
The EFA (WA) have currently adopted a policy for Biosecurity Measures at all EFA(WA) Competitions and Events, which has been developed by Dr Warwick Vale, an FEI Event Veterinarian and an EFA National Medication Control Officer.  The inception of this policy has also been embraced by the members of the Department of Agriculture, present at the EI Information Session held last week at the State Equestrian Centre.   Until such time as the rest of the country has achieved containment and subsequent eradication of this disease, we cannot be too careful.  Our horses are precious to us, and we do not want to go through the heartache that our counterparts in NSW and QLD are experiencing.  To this end, we are asking that Event Organisers and Competitors alike, embrace what we are trying to achieve, and play their part in the procedures that we have set in place.  It must be understood that this policy is an interim measure, which will most definitely be downgraded as soon as it is considered safe to do so. EVENTING WA NEWS

Gidge Report - by James King

With every sneeze and snuffle being unusually and carefully analysed we were lucky and delighted that Gidge could run last weekend.  (Special thanks to Warwick and his team, for so painlessly and efficiently vetting us all (on arrival).  The weather was set fair, (not always the case at Gidge), the arenas immaculate - and Tom had done another brilliant job on the course.  More than a dozen new jumps - some of them monsters - and ground conditions that benefited hugely from several hundred tonnes of sand- since last year!  Thanks Tom.

Six riders competed on the new 2* track, with first place deservedly going to Sonja Johnson and Parkiarrup Illicit Liaison (66.4), followed by Michael Dagostino and Kendletone Park Golden (77.8).  Renee Williams and Montego Bay were 0.4 of a point behind in third, with Sonja again, on Le Directeur, having  an unlucky slip but still finishing in fourth spot.  Belinda Isbister and Just a Mint were only a rail behind on this, their first 2* outing with 83.4.

The 1* was won by  young rider Emma King, who lead from the first phase on her big Irish mare - Kirby Park Irish Mist, both looked to be enjoying their first start at this level.  Pheobe Tucker and Gravitron were just behind (73.2), ahead of Kirsten Twining and Aya Soquili in third (76.3).  Michael Dagostino and Kendlestone Park Maxim(76.6) were next, with Joanne Pedley and Initial Impact finishing fifth (83.1) ahead of Veronica Erzay and Dark Royale (98.5).

The Senior Pre-novice was a very close contest, being won by Jessica Bell and Lowanna Lady (57.0), ahead of Jackie Sept and Ignore me, with Ebony Smailes and Debonair in third.  Less than a rail separated these three with Sarah Murray and Nice Timing in fourth (62.2) and Vivian Pinter in fifth also less than a rail behind.  William Newton Wordsworth’s delightful youngster Williams River Christmas came sixth (78.4).  In the Junior Pre-novice Makayla Wood with Just Corona (55.8) won the rug, followed closely by Elisabeth Moore (57.6) and Jessamy Walsh (59.4).  All three finished on their dressage scores and were followed by Cassy Choules, Jessica Manson and Erin Picken.

The Senior Prelim was a class of 30 - and saw Cammy O’Rourke with Atlanto (50.0) take first place, ahead of Anna Lambeck and Chestnut Teal (54.2) with Hayley Hickson on Blue Halo in third.  Natalie Barr’s Holland Park Ambition (64.5) squeezed Elizabeth Mcarthy on Cruise (65.0) in to fifth ahead of Sanchia Stowe (65.2).  The juniors were just as  close, with Susanna Weedon on Howard’s End (41.8) taking the honours ahead of Rachel Smith and BML The Candidate (42.6).  Jessica Manson and legal Star (43.2) were right behind!  That’s close.

Veronica Stone with Try My Best – certainly did and won the Senior Intro 1, followed by Ron Fleming’s Knightwood Ruler in second.  Sky Perry with Stomper came third, with Wendy Cumming and Pestarelli fourth.   Kirsty Whitnell and Danzarman were close behind.  Tahlia Baxter on Top Deck was the winner of the Junior Intro 1 and Kristen Macaulay with Jahi Starlight Buccaneer the winner of the C grade.  In the Senior Intro 2 Cindy Lyall and GI Drunkeen won victory, as did Emily Purvis and Trapalanda Brigadier in the juniors.  Lucy Rowe and Rose of Rockdale were successful winners of the D grade.

Thank you to the organisers for a really fabulous weekend, especially considering the uncertainty in the lead up to it – and thank you Tom for an outstanding track.

ALCOA CNC at Fairbridge 22nd & 23rd September - Programme

Gidgegannup Horse and Pony Club and the Gidge ODE committee would like to sincerely thank Warwick Vale and the fabulous veternary team, who gave their time and expertise to check the 250 horses competing at the Gidge ODE over the weekend. They started at 7am on Saturday and worked tirelessly and patiently through the horses and made everyone feel at ease with the procedure. Your efforts are greatly appreciated by us and also the competitors who were able to get on with what they love to do. Thank you again to Warwick and his team and also the EFA for their support in this matter.

COMBINED HORSE TRANSPORT - HORSE OF THE YEAR

Important Notice to all Showhorse HOTY Competitors and Visitors

On advice from Dr Warwick Vale and the EFA, precautionary measures will be enforced at the State Equestrian Centre on 8 and 9 September. PLEASE REMEMBER, these procedures are MINOR inconveniences compared to what we would endure if this terrible virus was to hit this state.  ALL horses attending the event will be vet checked.
STATE EQUESTRIAN CENTRE ACCESS:

Friday 7 Sepember: The SEC will be accessible all day.  Horses arriving on Friday will be checked early Saturday morning. Saturday 8 September: Gates will be open from 6:30am until 10:30am and horses will be checked upon arrival. Sunday 9 September: Gates will be open from 6:30am until 10:30am and horses will be checked upon arrival. AT NO OTHER TIME will horses be permitted to enter the State Equestrian Centre.  If you choose to take your horse home on Saturday night and return Sunday, you will be checked again.  We encourage you not to do this as it will increase the workload on the vets/stewards. If you are a country competitor and you have no option than to arrive at the SEC outside these hours, please contact jobastian@bigpond.com

DECLARATION OF INTERSTATE VISITORS:

All those who have friends, coaches, associates attending this event must contact a member of the organising committee immediately.  Interstate visitors are forbidden to bring any equipment or clothing that has been in contact with a horse in another state.  This applies to everyone, whether or not they are from an infected state.  Visitors will be required to read the relevant information regarding the transfer of EI and sign a declaration available via email from paul.morath@lizzy.com.au or srobson@iinet.net.au  This same declaration will be required of our judges.  We assure you that all precautionary measures will be exercised to provide a safe event for you and your horse.  Thank you for your understanding and I look forward to seeing you at the State Equestrian Centre on 8 and 9 September.
Kind Regards Joanne Bastian

We are still looking forward to a great weekend with plenty of action.  The comiittee have been working very hard this week to make this show happen and so we would appreciate you support and understanding over the weekend with the added biosecurity measures etc.  We have international and interstate visitors here as well so lets show them the best WA hospitality and top level competition.  Don't forget we are having a free competitor sausage sizzle on the Saturday night of HOTY and also live music upstairs in the bar area of the SEC.  The bar will also be open so please come along have a groove and meet some of our visitors.

PARA-EQUESTRIAN

Like all equestrian activities, Para Equestrian has also been seriously affected by the current Equine Influenza crisis.  The National RDAA Dressage Championships, scheduled to be held at Werribee on October 8 –13 and which were to incorporate a CDPEI **** International Qualifier for the 2008 Olympics, have had to postponed until January 21 – 26, 2008.  This date will be the last possible date before the Qualification period closes on January 31.  At present we are still negotiating with Werribee but it most likely that the venue will have to be moved to the Tonimbuk Equestrian Centre.  At present, much time is being spent in changing flights for the many overseas officials who were travelling to Australia for this event and, more importantly, determining their availability for the new date as well as amending schedules etc.

We have had excellent assistance from the EFA National office and from the FEI for which we are very grateful and thank them most sincerely.

PARA EQUESTRIAN FUNDRAISER – EL CABALLO

Thank you to all those who supported the Australian Para Equestrian Squad Fund Raiser at El Caballo on August 18.  We had a great night with Australian Champion Ballroom Dancers, a fantastic raffle, opportunities to buy beautiful jewellery and magnificent sculptures, an auction of an equally magnificent framed picture of Jose Mendez and his Andalusian Stallion and of course, wonderful dining and friends.  We were able to make a significant contribution to the fund and thoroughly enjoy ourselves at the same time.

Thank you very sincerely to Matt Pavlinovich and the staff at El Caballo and to Jan Pavlinovich, who put it all together.

The WA State team, who were to travel to the Nationals, will probably relish the extra preparation time, particularly those who have horses who have been caught up in the “Lockdown”.  Our thanks to Wayne Keily, of Combined Horse Transport, for his continued support and understanding and to Greg Johnson of Europa for the great outfits. Thanks also to Helen O’Malley of Dayana Horse Rugs. Each year Helen donates a beautiful woollen  rug for the winner of our RDAWA Horse of the Year event.  This event will be held at the EFA Horse of the Year on Sunday Sept.9.

AUSSIE BUSH YARNS AND BARBECUE AT DIGGERS CAMP

We are still working hard at our fund raising and thank everyone for their support of our functions and our chocolates.  ‘Aussie Bush Yarns and Verse will be held at Diggers’ Camp, Blair Rd Oakford, on Sunday September 23 at 12.30 pm.  Cost of $30.00 includes a great Aussie barbecue.  Contact Fleur Litster on 9256 4143 or 0405 339 757 or email dressage@ridingdevelopsability.com .
