EFA Equine Inflenza Update No 5

Following a teleconference held with the relevant chief veterinarians, the WA Minister for Agriculture has applied for an exemption to the ban on the movement of horses, which will include the entire horse industry in WA.

We are hopeful that the outcome of this application will be known as early as tomorrow.  In light of this, if the exemption is successful the following events will be able to proceed, at the discretion of the event organisers.:-  The Perth Horse and Pony Club’s Fathers Day Showjumping Spectacular and the Gidgegannup One Day Event.

The exception to this will be the Combined Horse Transport Showhorse HOTY, National and International Showman events which have been postponed until the following weekend the 8th & 9th of September.

The organisers of the Gidge ODE would like to advise all riders and other people involved with the Gidge ODE to check this website on Thursday morning for a decision on whether the event will go ahead this weekend or be postponed to a later date.

All members are encouraged to watch the EFAWA website for updates to this information, or keep in contact with Event Organisers.

It must also be stated, that if the application for the exemption is not successful, it will remain an offence to transport horses.  Any movement of horses under this circumstance will be a contravention of the ban and fines will be enforced.  Therefore, it is imperative that people receive confirmation of the status of the ban on movement, prior to transporting their horses.  This can be done by calling the advertised hotline, through radio broadcasts, or checking the EFAWA website.  An email blast will be sent out, as soon as there are any developments in this matter.
